Crisis 101

My house used to be a total wreck.  The problem is you don’t know where to start.  You waste so much time trying to figure out how and where to start!

Don’t start by trying to clean for hours!!  You’ll just burn out!  I want you to start by developing a few routines.  Do the basic items on this checklist every single day. Trust me – it gets easier as you plug along.  This is not the time to try to cook an elaborate meal.  Buy some paper plates and cook some easy dinners.  Better yet, order out for a couple of days until you get the kitchen under control.

After you do all the morning chores from your daily checklist, start getting one area in the kitchen clean at a time.  Begin with your kitchen sink (you need a clean place to wash dishes and prepare food) and then the counters next to the sink.  Toss, give away or sell all the clutter you can.  Just keep the bare basics.  The less that is out, the less you have to clean!  The next day, wipe down what you already cleaned – it’s yours baby!  Now that the area around your sink and your sink are clean start where you enter your kitchen and start working your way around the room.  Clean a section each day and keep everything else that has been cleaned, clean.  It just takes a second to wipe it down, whisk away any clutter and then clean a new small section.  Before you know it, your kitchen is going to look clean.

Once all the counters are clean, tackle your cook top.
